What is Reiki
For someone who has followed the esoteric practices for many years and feels them to be true intrinsically. Sometimes it is hard for me to explain energetic modalities that consist of abstract thinking. I feel the best way is to take it back to the basics.
Quantum physics says that about 99 percent of our bodies are made up of atoms of hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen and oxygen AKA energy! Since we are made up of energy we must maintain, balance and align our energy system.
Our energy system is composed of more than 7 chakras (energy centers) and more than a 1,000 Nadis (highways). Think of acupuncture and the many locations in the body those fun little needles can go. Yes Eastern medicine focuses on freeing up our energy (Prana/Qi/Ki) in order to create ease and flow in life. Whereas, the Nadis used in Yoga are known as meridians in Traditional Chineese medicine (TCM).
If our energy system does not flow properly allowing vitality to flow throughout our body it will result in DIS-ease, sickness, illness, depression and a lack of motivation.
In order to maintain a free flow of energy yoga, meditation, acupuncture, Tai Chi, Qi Gong and yes Reiki are recommended.
Sure I digressed but the information above was very helpful, right?
Getting back to Reiki. Reiki is a channeled energy that comes from the purest and highest level of consciousness. This energy is what re-balances, re-aligns, and detoxifies the energy system.
Reiki was discovered in the 1920’s by Mikao Usui who was meditating on Mount Kurama in Japan. During his meditation Usui Sensei received visuals that guided him to create the system of healing that is known as Reiki.
Since then Reiki has spread with practitioners around the world providing this stress reducing, relaxing, re-balancing, healing energy of Reiki. Reiki is also administered in hospitals, wellness businesses, and yoga studios.
Now you might be wondering how Reiki can help. Since Reiki helps to reduce stress and brings about relaxation, the body easily goes into homeostasis. Therefore the body is able to repair itself, as it was created to.
When our bodies are in fight or flight mode it believes it needs to protect us from danger and our energy is taken up by this state. Now imagine being in this state for days/weeks/months. You will surely have some blocks, ailments within your system. Therefore Reiki helps to clear this from our bodies.
It is recommended to have a regular Reiki treatment at least twice a month if not more depending on your stress level. Becoming aware of factors that create challenge in your life and can hamper your self-care may include work, family, past trauma, life transition, and or home environment to name a few.
After a a session you may feel lighter, you may feel a sense of wholeness, vitality, a connection to what you call God, to something higher than yourself. You may walk away with clarity, joy, hope and peace, experiencing bliss, comfort…
Since Reiki is accessible for our highest and greatest good. There are some lessons that we must undergo first in order for some lessons to clear from our lives. Furthermore some lessons may not be released until we have finished the experience we needed from it. So it may take some time for it to clear. Sometimes these lessons can release and may feel uncomfortable because they have been with us for long and our body has become accustomed to it. The important aspect is that the lesson/experience has come to a completion in your life and it is time to make room for new energy.
Reiki has its own intelligence and it is the force that is healing, not the practitioner. The practitioner serves as a channel for the energy to flow to the client and that is all.
Ultimately surrendering to the Reiki experience is suggested as practitioners and clients have no control over what is released and what is received. It is all up to your path and the intelligence of Reiki.
